What to expect
"Dining at Joanna's is not a transaction. It is an event — one that begins the moment you step out of the elevator and does not end until you are ready to leave."
We designed the Joanna's experience around a single principle: that luxury is not about excess, but about the absence of friction. Every element of your evening — from the greeting at the door to the final glass of port — has been considered so that you never have to think about anything except the company you are keeping and the food in front of you.
The dining room seats 64 guests across two floors, with a private terrace overlooking the Sandton City skyline. The kitchen is open — visible through the pass-through window — so that the theatre of cooking is part of the experience, not hidden behind closed doors.
Behind the pass
The Joanna's kitchen is built around the grill. Our head chef, trained in Johannesburg and refined in London and Cape Town, leads a brigade of twelve who work in deliberate silence — the only sounds are the crackle of kameeldoring wood and the controlled rhythm of service.
The pass-through window is intentional. We believe that watching a steak being finished — the resting, the slicing, the plating — is part of understanding what you are about to eat. It is transparency as hospitality.

From kitchen to table
Our front-of-house team is trained to be present without being intrusive. They know the menu in detail — not just the ingredients, but the provenance of each cut, the ageing period, and the recommended preparation. When you ask a question, you receive a considered answer, not a rehearsed script.
Each table is assigned a dedicated host for the evening. Your water glass will not be empty. Your steak will arrive at the correct temperature. These are not aspirations — they are standards.
"Service is not what we do. It is how we think about every person who walks through the door."
The cellar
Our wine programme is curated by our resident sommelier, with a cellar of over 400 labels drawn predominantly from the Stellenbosch, Swartland, and Franschhoek valleys. We also hold a selection of Burgundy, Barolo, and Napa Valley Cabernet for guests who prefer to look beyond South Africa's borders.
Every steak on our menu has a recommended pairing. Our sommelier is available to guide your selection, or to build a tasting flight across the evening if you prefer to explore.

Before and after dinner
The Joanna's bar is a destination in its own right. Our head bartender trained at some of Johannesburg's most respected cocktail establishments before joining us, and the cocktail programme reflects that pedigree — precise, seasonal, and built around spirits of genuine quality.
We recommend arriving 30 minutes before your reservation to settle in at the bar. The Old Fashioned is made with a 12-year Glenfarclas and a single large ice cube. It is worth arriving early for.
Bar open: Mon–Sat 5:00 pm · Sun 12:00 pm
Exclusive use
The Joanna's private dining room accommodates up to 22 guests for exclusive use. Available for corporate dinners, milestone celebrations, and private events requiring a level of discretion and service that a shared dining room cannot provide.
Corporate Dinners
Impress clients and colleagues in a setting that communicates seriousness and taste in equal measure. AV equipment and bespoke menus available on request.
Milestone Celebrations
Birthdays, anniversaries, and achievements deserve a room of their own. We work with you to design an evening that reflects the occasion.
Proposal Evenings
Our team has helped plan more proposals than we can count. We know how to create the conditions for a perfect moment without making it feel staged.
Wine Dinners
Hosted by our sommelier, our quarterly wine dinners pair six courses with wines selected from a single estate or region. Limited to 14 guests.
The space
Warm, low, directional lighting. Aged wood, leather, stone, and brushed metal. Materials chosen for permanence, not trend. The room is designed to feel intentional — every detail considered, nothing accidental.
Tables are spaced to allow conversation without compromise. The sound level is low and consistent — conversation-friendly, never sharp. There is no background music that competes with the room. The room is the music.
